Roasts and stews and sleeves

Yesterday, I just didn't know what to do with myself. I know its September and I should be thinking about sleeves, but it was still in the eighties, so I decided to crank out these three skirts instead.

Well, a cold breeze blew in last night and I not only turned off the fan, but had to close the window. So now, instead of the grill and salads I'm thinking about roasts and stews and sleeves.  I've had this particular pattern for a while and I guess I like the idea of it, but we have a troubled past.

I saw a sample of it at an expo, bought the pattern and made it up, but it seemed such a lost cause I chucked the whole thing. And then later bought the pattern again. Crazy, right? I never did make it again, but I did make a muslin and found these notes inside the envelope.

I also researched it on Pattern Review and others concurred with my thoughts. Armed with more knowledge and patience, I'm going to take another whack at it.

  1. I, too, was attracted to the pattern, but thought of it as more of a jacket than a shirt -- despite the pattern name. The more I looked at the pattern line drawing, however, the more doubts I had about being able to succesfuuly modify it for my body (short waist, narrow shoulders, bit of a rounded back, and a DD cup). I carefully read the reviews at PatternReviw (bless those ladies) and decided that maybe I should pass on this.

As far as I can see, that neckline just does not work. Nor can I see this as either a blouse or a jacket, despite the pattern envelope's claims that it can be either. I noticed that those who had successfully made it had to make enough modifications to turn this into another pattern altogether. It looks fine on the thinsters, but I'm afraid that on a fatty like me, it may end up looking like a badly made pyjama top. There are many other simpler to make shirts and jackets, while this "simple" garment would be way more complicated to make.

    1. I think you are exactly right about that collar. It doesn't look right standing up or laying down. But I have an idea!! I do like the shape of the jacket though and I hope to make it work somehow.
